WELCOME

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the residency training program in Diagnostic Radiology at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. The primary mission of the training program in Diagnostic Radiology is to provide superb clinical training in each area of diagnostic imaging. This mission is achieved with a large full time faculty and the resources of the highest ranked clinical facility in the country. Teaching is a top priority of our faculty, and residents are exposed to a wealth of fascinating case material in a friendly, nurturing, hard-working but low-pressure environment. Our vision for the residency is simple. We strive to train excellent radiologists and future leaders, whether that be in clinical practice, teaching or research. Our goal is to challenge and set high expectations. Honesty, integrity, professionalism and hard work are keys to success here at Hopkins. As the saying goes… “Much is expected from those to whom much has been given.”

The department is especially seeking candidates with interests in academic radiology. Research is strongly encouraged but not required; residents may arrange research time in a number of flexible ways. In addition to our goal of training leaders in academic radiology, Johns Hopkins aims to foster leadership skills in all potential areas of radiology practice. The program consists of four years of residency training with a strongly encouraged fellowship in your field of choice. Most of our residents stay at Hopkins. However, those electing to go elsewhere are strongly supported and find excellent fellowships.

We participate in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and the National Residency Match Program. We will offer ten (10) PGY-2 positions in the forthcoming interview season. Successful applicants will begin residency on July 1, 2013. The deadline for receipt of applications and all required documentation is November 15, 2011. Dean's letters and/or updated transcripts will be the only documentation accepted after the deadline. Required documentation includes USMLE Step 1 scores, medical school transcript, three recommendation letters from clinical faculty/attendings, a personal statement and curriculum vitae. Applications and documentation will only be accepted through ERAS.

We match ten (10)  positions in the residency program as described above, #1242420A0.

Interviews will be held between late October 2011 and January 2012. Applicants will be invited to interview via email. Additionally, those we will not be interviewing will also be contacted by email. If you have any questions about the residency program or application process, please contact Annette Houston at (410) 955-5525 or by email at ahousto@jhmi.edu.

Sincerely,

Karen M. Horton, MD
