2009 Johns Hopkins Radiology Department Accolades From the Radiology Department Newsletter, Editor: Mary McAllister
• At the June 2009 Johns Hopkins Medical and Surgical Association’s Biennial Meeting, the School of Medicine presented Henry N. Wagner, Jr. M.D., with the Distinguished Medical Alumni Award. This is the highest honor bestowed on an alumnus whose outstanding professional and personal achievements exemplify the heritage of excellence at Johns Hopkins Medicine. • Mahadevappa Mahesh, M.S., Ph.D., FAAPM, FACR, has published a book called “MDCT Physics: The Basics – Technology, Image Quality and Radiation Dose” (publishers Wolters Kluwer Health - Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, Philadelphia, Pa.). This is an easy-to-read textbook that explains the physics behind multiple-row detector computed tomography (MDCT) technology, particularly newer, more complex technologies. This book is intended to provide a simple yet comprehensive insight into MDCT technology, with a focus on the physical principles of MDCT technology, and the effects of various scan parameters on image quality and radiation dose. The book contains numerous figures and images to explain the concepts and includes key points and summaries to assist in the understanding and optimal use of this technology. • Three members of the Hopkins radiology family were named Fellows of the American College of Radiology. Mahadevappa Mahesh, M.S., Ph.D., FAAPM, FACR; Loralie Ma, M.D. (an alumna); and Sheila Sheth, M.D. were honored at the American College of Radiology awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. in May. |
