Nursing within the Department of Radiology is an intricate part of the patient care delivery model at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Our team of nurses work alongside Technologist and Physician groups to provide outstanding imaging and patient care services. Nursing staff is assigned throughout ten imaging divisions: Neuroradiology, Nuclear Medicine, MRI, Body CT, Ultrasound, Tower Diagnostic Radiology, Pediatric Radiology, JHOC (Outpatient Services), Weinberg Radiology/CT, and the Interventional Radiology Center. These nurses provide, promote, and maintain continuity of quality patient care consistent with Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Department of Medical Nursing care standards.

The Radiology Department provides a full range of diagnostic and interventional imaging studies for inpatients and outpatients of all ages. Therefore, nursing services in these areas vary to meet patient care need and overall safety. Duties of Radiology Nursing include, but are not limited to:

  • Patient assessment and care prior to and subsequent to procedure, including documentation of the same
  • Set-up and administration of pre-, intra-, and post-procedure medications as ordered by the physician
  • Utilization of advanced nursing skills to maintain patient stability pre-, intra-, and post-procedure
  • Response to emergency situations within the department

The radiology subspecialty gives nurses one of the highest degrees of autonomy, allowing them the freedom to spread their assessment, planning and evaluative wings. Nurses here are also strongly encouraged to pursue continuing education, committee membership and specialty certification.

Assistant Director of Nursing
